The characters in the story are purely fictitious. Any resemblance with the characters in this story to the living or the dead is purely coincidental. Written by Vinayak Iyer, Mumbai, India. September, 2014

The night was silent. John knew it. Yet, he was out of the house for some fresh chilly air trying to remember the paranormal incident happened nearly a week before. Cold winds helped the dry leaves of the trees rustle against each other.

John's house (as earlier described) was not on a main road rather it was inside a by-lane. John saw a bright light heading into the by-lane. The light however was that of a car, John noticed. "That's unusual", muttered John to himself. This road was usually quite silent and inactive hence, the activity of a car passing through the road in the dead night was not something for John to cherish about. "And by the way", John thought, "the lane hardly leads to any place of settlements. The lane goes right into a cattle farm and that some 2 miles away after exiting from this lane." He knew that the word "exiting" was not appropriate to use then because he saw the car was nearing him and surely not heading to the cattle farm judging the speed of the car.

The blue corvette-(the corvette was certainly not a recent model) as John noticed was not with a normal rider. The environment became quite queer. He knew the an eerie feeling had encrypted him and started to take slow strides that eventually moved on to the act of running. He decided he should get to Samuel's place, a block away.

The corvette seemed to notice John's movement for, it had slowly started to shadow him. By this time, John was beginning to perspire, his heart began to race, the adrenaline pumping. Samuel's house was in sight. And so was the corvette behind him! He reached the drive lane of his friend's house. The slippery surface went unnoticed by John. He slipped and went down on the ground with a thud! The noise, however, didn't go unnoticed as Samuel put on his lights and opened his room's french windows.

"John", he called out, "what's up? What brings you here? Do come in." The cheerful behavior of Samuel at this time of the night puzzled him. But he did not hesitate to enter the house. He related his eventful night to Samuel.
