#1.3.1

The characters in the story are purely fictitious. Any resemblance with the characters in this story to the living or the dead is purely coincidental. Written by Vinayak Iyer, Mumbai, India. October 2014.

The sun shone brightly the next morning. The rays penetrated Samuel's french windows. John woke up only to see Samuel in the dining room casting his eyes over the morning newspaper.
"Morning", John called out. "Good morning!", replied his friend. After some general chat over the breakfast, John decided to make a move.
"Well, the car better not follow you now. Look out for that!", Samuel joked. John said nothing but merely returned a smile. Nobody traced John this time as he entered his house. The day was event less and dull.
Later that evening, John made a surprise visit to Samuel's. He announced something that literally startled Samuel. John did not seem to notice the surprise as something out of the norm for, his announcement was such. "But why?", retorted Samuel, "and whom are you selling it to?".
"Well, I'm moving for further studies and this house didn't look too good", said John.
"That's okay. Now my trick is history", muttered Samuel. But John heard him all right!
"Hey, I need to talk to you. You've been acting alienated nowadays", said John. " I need to "know the reason"". He sounded quite serious. Samuel felt that too and was only surrounded by high walls with no escape.
After a pause, Samuel started. "See, you've been my best buddy but after we both couldn't keep in contact with each other, there came Alejandro."
John looked puzzled but did not interrupt the host. " Alejandro", continued Samuel, "was actually a Portuguese. He came here like you're going from here, for studies. He was never bright in academics but I should say that he was clever.
"What has Alejandro got to do with this?" John asked with arousing curiosity. Samuel got a little annoyed owing to the interruption but did not lose his cool. He did not seem to answer John's question but continued.
"Alejandro became friends with me like you and me and then we arrived to the so-called turning point of our lives. I knew it wouldn't stay long. At that time John sat down in the couch knowing that there was something more to come- something more exciting!
